The Film fever has come to Bulgaria. The Sofia Film Festival from the 14th to the 25th of March will gather independent filmmakers from eastern and western Europe.

There is a huge selection of venues throughout Bulgaria and Sofia where movie goers can experience what the festival has to offer.

I have never seen a Bulgarian Movie. But there is always a first time. Base on a true story, Voice Over (2010), is story set in the end of the 70's. Anton, a Director of Photography, and his wife Diana are separated by the Iron Curtain- she fled with their son Antoan to Western Berlin while he stayed in Bulgaria. There comes a time, though, when Anton's influential friends fall from power and he loses everything that he's ever loved- his work, his wife and his son. Sounds good.

Also from Korea, dream ( 2008) is a story about Jin, who discovers that when he dreams, the woman that he has never met before, Ran, unconsciously acts out his dream while sleepwalking. For some reason I can't stop thinking of Will Ferrell’s Stranger than Fiction (2006), where ( according to wikipedia) Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) is an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service, living his entire life based on the timing of his wristwatch. He is given the job to audit an intentionally tax-delinquent baker, Ana Pascal (Maggie Gyllenhaal) to whom he is awkwardly attracted. On the same day, he begins hearing the voice of a woman that is omnisciently narrating the events in his life, but he is unable to communicate with the voice. On his way home, Harold's watch stops working and he resets it using the time given by a bystander; the voice narrates "little did he know that this simple, seemingly innocuous act would result in his imminent death". Worried over this prediction, Harold turns to a psychiatrist who attributes the voice to schizophrenia. Harold listens to her conclusion without giving importance to it. When he asks what she would advise if it were not schizophrenia, the psychiatrist suggests Harold turn to a literary expert. Harold visits Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman), a university professor, and relates his story. Jules first comes to the same conclusion as the psychiatrist, as Harold's dull life is not something commonly seen in novels. However, Jules then recognizes aspects of a literary work in Harold's story ("little did he know"), and encourages him to help identify the author, first by determining if the work is a comedy or a tragedy. Sounds familiar?.

For a 14th year Sofia International Film Festival will gather together in Sofia films, guests, stars, journalists and lovers of good filmmaking. Featured in Variety’s Top 50 of cinema festivals, the largest in scale cinematographic event that represents Bulgaria proudly to the world will declare itself as one of the important festivals in South Eastern Europe and will take place March 5 - 14. What started as a thematic music film festival, went successfully through 13 previous editions to become the cinema marathon of the year in Bulgaria with its own serious claims for the most demanding audience, because it brings the current world cinema trends to the domestic viewers and the latest in Bulgarian and regional cinema to the world.

Since 1997 more than 1, 600 feature films and documentaries have been screened within the festival’s framework. La fiebre de Cine ha llegado a Bulgaria. El Festival de Cine de Sofía del 14 al 25 de marzo se reunirán cineastas independientes de Europa oriental y occidental.

Hay una gran selección de venius en Bulgaria y Sofía, donde los aficionados al cine pueden experimentar lo que el festival tiene para ofrecer.

Nunca he visto una película búlgara. Pero siempre hay una primera vez. Basada en una historia real, Voice Over (2010), o voz doblada, es historia ambientada en el final de los años 70.
